Start a household
Open Gentle Tally, choose Create a Household, then add the household, caregiver, and child names. No account or internet sign-in is needed.
Add another caregiver
On the owner’s device, open Household and choose Add Caregiver. Keep both devices nearby while the new caregiver scans the temporary QR invitation and completes pairing.
Sync devices
Open Household and start Nearby Sync on both devices. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Local Network access should be enabled. The app records points offline; each connection exchanges the full ledger and merges entries without duplicates. Keep both apps open until syncing finishes. Start a new sync session after making more changes or to pass received history on to another caregiver’s device.
Protect your history
Each caregiver device stores its own protected copy. Gentle Tally does not keep a cloud backup, so pair more than one trusted device before replacing or erasing a phone or iPad. The database is excluded from system backups and signing keys cannot move to another device. If a saved household has no signing key, use Rejoin This Household with a new invitation from its owner. Saved entries are preserved. If no owner device remains, export your saved history before removing the app to start again. Exports are records, not importable backups.
